A publisher with good writing and almost no readers
The client
MeeksGuide is a technology and entertainment publisher. The writing was already good. Almost nobody was reading it.
The brief
A publisher with content and no traffic. The structure of the site gave search engines no clear signal about what any given page was about, related articles did not reference each other, and the technical foundation, meaning speed, crawlability and indexing, was working against it rather than for it. On top of that the site was not in a state AdSense would approve, so the writing could not earn anything either.
What we did
- Rebuilt it for speed from the ground up, because a slow publisher loses readers and rankings at the same time.
- Restructured the categories and the internal linking so related guides feed each other and every section has an obvious topic focus.
- Fixed the technical search work end to end. Crawl paths, indexation, metadata, structured data, sitemap, Search Console and Bing.
- Got it ready for AdSense. Layout, policy pages and content presentation that would pass review rather than come back with a list.
The result
Past ten thousand organic visits, and AdSense approved on the first submission with no back and forth. For a site that had been publishing into silence, the second of those mattered as much as the first, because it turned the writing into something that pays for itself.
Why a publisher is a different job
A business website has to convince a few hundred people a month. A publisher has to be legible to a search engine across hundreds of pages at once, and the things that break it are structural rather than cosmetic. If your categories overlap, every article competes with its own siblings. If nothing links to anything, each piece stands alone and none of them build on the others. If the pages are slow, the reader leaves before the writing gets a chance.
None of that is visible from looking at the site. It is why a publisher can have genuinely good writing and no readers, and it is why the fix started with the structure rather than the design.
In their words
“The website is amazing, I love it. I even got more than 10,000 organic traffic.”
“Got AdSense approval without any back and forth, and posting is straightforward now.”
